GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: China has pledged to maintain its support for Somalia’s security sector following talks between Interior Minister Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag) and Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu.

The discussions in Mogadishu focused on strengthening cooperation in security, including capacity building for Somali forces and efforts to counter violent extremism.

The minister welcomed Beijing’s ongoing assistance, saying it has contributed to improving stability and enhancing the capabilities of Somalia’s security institutions.

Wang reaffirmed China’s commitment to continued support, highlighting cooperation in demining programmes and training aimed at reducing threats from explosive remnants of war and improving civilian safety.

Both sides agreed to deepen strategic collaboration, particularly in areas linked to security and stabilisation.

Somalia has been expanding partnerships with international allies to bolster its security forces as it confronts threats from Al-Shabaab militants, while working to rebuild state institutions after decades of conflict.
