Electoral Commission Chief Upbeat on Galmudug Polls, Say Process ‘Ongoing Smoothly’

GOOBJOOG NEWS|DHUSAMAREB: The Chairperson of Somalia’s National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) has said that voting in Galmudug’s Local Council and State Assembly elections is proceeding in a peaceful and orderly manner, with polling stations operating smoothly across the state.

Speaking during the ongoing elections, the commission chair said all polling centers had opened as planned and were functioning effectively. He noted that comprehensive security measures had been put in place to ensure voters could safely exercise their constitutional right to vote.

The chairperson encouraged eligible voters to turn out in large numbers and cast their ballots, describing the elections as a significant opportunity for citizens to directly choose their local leaders and representatives to the Galmudug State Assembly.

He also called on the political organizations participating in the elections to continue cooperating closely with the electoral commission and to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

The commission chief specifically warned political organizations against making any changes to their lists of candidates while the elections are underway, stressing that maintaining the approved candidate lists is essential to preserving transparency and public confidence in the process.

The National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission reaffirmed its commitment to conducting the elections in a free, fair, and transparent manner in accordance with the laws and procedures governing the Galmudug electoral process.
