GOOBJOOG NEWS|BRUSSELS: The EU has hailed President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s war against Al-Shabaab noting the efforts were critical in ensuring stability in the Horn of Africa nation.

EU President Charles Michel made the remarks during a meeting with President Mohamud in the sidelines of the Global Gateway summit in Brussels.

“Your efforts in the fight against terrorism are key to security and stability in Somalia, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. The EU aims to remain a loyal partner in capacity building and humanitarian support,” the EU leader said.

President Mohamud has been leading the ongoing campaign against Al-Shabaab in the central regions for the last one year. He relocated his offices to Dhusamareb in August where he has been commanding the battle.

According to a statement from Villa Somalia, the two leaders discussed the Somali government’s efforts to eradicate the threat of terrorism and the EU’s continued support in areas of security, state-building, and development.

The President also held talks with EU High Representative Josep Borrel.
