EU Welcome President’s Call for Dialogue with Opposition

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The European Union’s Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, has announced the EU’s full support for President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s call for dialogue with opposition leaders operating under the Somali Future Forum.
The invitation, announced by the president on Saturday, is aimed at engaging key opposition figures, including the presidents of Jubaland and Puntland. The ambassador described the initiative as a critical step toward national unity and strengthening political and social cohesion, urging all stakeholders to respond promptly and constructively.
Di Mauro emphasized the importance of establishing a credible and inclusive political process, particularly on electoral matters, to guide the country toward a stable and democratic future.
Separately, the United Nations Transition Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) also welcomed the president’s announcement, expressing support for inclusive Somali-led dialogue efforts aimed at addressing key national priorities.
The European Union further reiterated its readiness to support Somali-led efforts to achieve a broad-based political agreement that brings together all key actors in the country’s political landscape.
