Foreign Affairs Minister Attends AU Executive Council Meeting in Addis Ababa
GOOBJOOG NEWS|ADDIS ABABA: Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali (Dhaay), is leading the country’s delegation to the 49th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council, which opened in Addis Ababa on Tuesday under the theme, “Ensuring Sustainable Access to Water.”
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Somalia will use the meeting to present its efforts to strengthen water security and improve access to clean water across the country.
The delegation is expected to showcase key national initiatives, including the Barwaaqo Water and Rural Resilience Project, as well as two newly constructed solar-powered boreholes designed to expand access to safe drinking water for communities.
The session also provides a platform for member states to discuss strengthening the African Union Commission and advancing the continent’s shared priorities and long-term development objectives.
The African Union Executive Council, comprising foreign ministers from AU member states, meets regularly to consider policy matters and prepare decisions for adoption by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government. The 49th session is expected to focus on issues related to sustainable water management, institutional reform, and continental cooperation.
