Four Al-Shabaab Members Arrested During Security Operation in Mogadishu
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Police in Mogadishu have arrested four Al-Shabaab militants linked to recent attacks targeting markets and shops in Mogadishu.
Somali Police Forces spokesman Abdifitah Aden Hassan told reporters that the suspects were linked to a series of attacks targetting business establishments which have implemented the government directive to install CCTV cameras at their premises.
Hassan added the forces are committed to ensure the security in the capital and that attempts by Al-Shabaab to stop installations of CCTV cameras which have averted extortion and other criminal will be thwarted.
Suspected Al-Shabaab militants recently gunned down four people in Yaaqshid district in Mogadishu.
Reports indicate that the men were operating their shops when the attackers opened fire, killing three of them instantly while one person succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
The reports further indicated that the men were targeted because they had installed CCTV cameras at their shops in line with an earlier government directive which was strongly opposed by the Al-Shabaab militant group.
The government directive was intended to crackdown on the militant group extortion ring which was harassing residents of Mogadishu and its environs.
