Four Somali Police Officers Earn Master’s Degrees in Russia in First Such Graduation in Four Decades
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Four officers from the Somali Police Force have graduated with master’s degrees from Russia’s Academy of Administration under the Ministry of Interior, marking the first time in more than four decades that Somali police officers have completed advanced studies in the country.
The officers received master’s degrees in General Administration and Strategic Planning, a qualification Somali police authorities said would strengthen leadership and institutional capacity within the force.
Government officials described the graduation as a significant milestone in the revival of educational and security cooperation between Somalia and Russia, noting that it was the first such graduation by Somali police officers from a Russian institution in 40 years.
The officers are expected to return to Somalia and apply their expertise in strategic planning, public administration and institutional management as the country continues reforms aimed at modernising its security sector.
Somalia has in recent years expanded international partnerships to strengthen the capacity of its security institutions through specialised training and professional development. Police and military officers have received training in countries including Turkey, Egypt, Italy, Uganda, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, reflecting Mogadishu’s efforts to build professional security forces capable of addressing evolving security challenges.
The graduation also comes as Russia seeks to deepen diplomatic and security engagement across Africa. In recent years, Moscow has increased cooperation with several African countries in areas including education, military training and security, while Somalia has pursued a broader foreign policy aimed at diversifying its international partnerships.
Overseas professional education plays an increasingly important role in helping Somalia develop leadership within its security institutions, complementing domestic reforms and international support aimed at improving policing, governance and public safety.
