Future Council Accepts Invitation to National Dialogue, Sets Conditions
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somali Future Council has confirmed it will take part in a national consultative meeting proposed by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, while outlining conditions for its participation.
In a statement, the council said it welcomes the invitation to join talks scheduled for May 10, describing the move as an opportunity for constructive engagement on key national issues.
However, the group stressed that its participation will depend on what it called a genuine commitment to inclusive dialogue and transparency, particularly regarding electoral processes and constitutional matters.
It urged the government to ensure that discussions are credible and result-oriented, warning against what it described as unilateral decisions that could undermine trust among stakeholders.
The council also called for broader political consensus ahead of upcoming elections, emphasizing the need for a process that reflects the will of the Somali people.
Despite its reservations, the group said it remains open to dialogue, signaling willingness to engage if conditions for meaningful participation are met.
The development comes amid ongoing political consultations in Somalia as the government seeks to build consensus on governance, elections and the country’s future political direction.
