GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: China has signed a humanitarian assistance agreement with the Somali government worth 15 million Chinese Yuan (approximately $2.1 million) to support vulnerable communities affected by ongoing humanitarian crises across the country.

The agreement was signed by a Somali government official and China’s Ambassador to Somalia, Wang Yu.

Under the deal, the aid will be delivered to communities in some of the areas hardest hit by humanitarian emergencies, with the aim of strengthening relief efforts and providing assistance to people affected by drought, flooding, conflict, and displacement.

Speaking after the signing, Ambassador Wang Yu said China would continue supporting Somalia, particularly through humanitarian assistance and broader bilateral cooperation.

The Somali government expressed its appreciation for China’s continued support, especially its efforts to assist vulnerable populations and strengthen the country’s capacity to respond to humanitarian disasters.

The agreement comes as Somalia continues to grapple with multiple humanitarian challenges, including recurring droughts, floods, armed conflict, and large-scale displacement, leaving millions of people in need of humanitarian assistance.
