GOOBJOOG NEWS | LONDON: Somalia’s Telecommunication giant Hormud Telecom has been honored with the prestigious “Connecting the Unconnected” award at the 2024 Glotel Awards held in London.

The award underscores the Telco Company’s remarkable efforts in bringing connectivity to underserved and rural communities across Somalia.

Hormud emerged the best among prominent global contenders such as Wifinity (UK), Zayo Group (USA), HFCL (India), and SK Telecom (South Korea). The Glotel Awards, hosted by Telecoms, celebrate exceptional achievements in the telecommunications industry.

Hormuud expressed pride in its accomplishments, highlighting its two-decade journey of innovation and inclusion.

“For two decades, we’ve worked to bring Somalia closer – rebuilding networks, bringing internet to the most remote corners, and rolling out 5G in our cities. Through our mobile money platform, EVC Plus, we’ve empowered communities and helped NGOs deliver life-saving aid right where it’s needed,” a statement on the company’s social media reads.

Hormuud’s innovative solutions have played a transformative role in Somalia’s development, especially in areas traditionally overlooked by global connectivity initiatives.

Its mobile money platform, EVC Plus, has revolutionized financial inclusion, enabling millions of Somalis to access digital banking and humanitarian aid in remote regions.
