JSP Secures Major Lead, Wins 63 of 87 Seats in Galmudug Parliament
GOOBJOOG NEWS|DHUSAMAREB: The National Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) has announced the official results of the Galmudug State elections, revealing that the Justice and Solidarity Party (JSP) secured a decisive victory after winning 63 of the 87 parliamentary seats contested under Somalia’s one-person, one-vote electoral system.
According to the commission, the Tawfiq Party emerged as the second-largest political force with 12 seats, followed by the San’ad Party with six seats, the Karama Party with five seats, and the Ramas Party with one seat. In total, 16 political parties competed in the elections, which were held across 11 towns and cities in Galmudug.
The election drew strong voter participation, with 197,971 ballots cast out of 247,000 registered voters, representing a turnout of about 80.1%. Of the ballots cast, 191,504 (96.7%) were declared valid, while 6,470 (3.3%) were rejected as invalid.
The results underscore the dominance of the Justice and Solidarity Party, which captured approximately 72.4% of all parliamentary seats, leaving the remaining 24 seats to four other parties.
The Galmudug vote marks Somalia’s latest milestone in its transition toward direct elections and is expected to bolster efforts to expand the one-person, one-vote electoral model across the country.
