Liban Ahmed Hassan Inaugurated as Galmudug President
GOOBJOOG NEWS | DHUSAMAREB: Galmudug’s newly elected president, Liban Ahmed Hassan, and his deputy, Abdiweli Ibrahim Adan (Garyare), were formally inaugurated on Thursday in a ceremony attended by Somalia’s top federal and regional leaders.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and Speaker of the House of the People Abdulqadir Mohamed Nur (Jaamac) joined regional leaders, lawmakers, traditional elders and other dignitaries at the ceremony in Dhusamareb, the state capital.
South West State leader Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe) was among the regional leaders attending the inauguration, which marked the formal start of the new Galmudug administration following the election on October 22.
Liban secured 72 of the 89 votes cast by members of the Galmudug parliament, paving the way for his appointment as the state’s new leader.
The new administration takes office amid continuing security and governance challenges in central Somalia, including efforts to counter Al-Shabaab, strengthen local institutions and promote reconciliation.
South West State congratulated the new leadership and expressed hope that it would prioritise peace, stability and development in Galmudug.
