Mogadishu Youth Rally In Support Of Peace and National Unity
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Hundreds of young people gathered in Mogadishu Monday evening to demonstrate support for peace, stability and national unity amid heightened political and security tensions in the Somali capital.
The peaceful gathering, held at the Taleex junction in Hodan district under the slogan “Voice of the Capital,” saw participants declare their commitment to protecting Mogadishu’s security and rejecting attempts to destabilize the city.
The youths described Mogadishu as a symbol of Somali unity and warned against actions that could threaten the capital’s stability or undermine ongoing state-building efforts.
The demonstration comes amid increased political tensions and heightened security operations in Mogadishu, where federal government authorities have intensified efforts to prevent militant attacks and maintain public order.
Participants at the rally emphasized the importance of preserving peace and supporting national reconciliation, while also highlighting the growing role of Somali youth in governance, civic engagement and development initiatives.
The gathering also reflects broader federal government efforts to mobilize youth participation in peacebuilding, democratic reforms and civic awareness campaigns as Somalia advances state-building and stabilization initiatives.
In recent months, the federal government of Somalia and international partners have expanded consultations linked to Somalia’s National Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) Action Plan, aimed at increasing youth involvement in reconciliation, conflict prevention and community engagement across the country.
Federal government officials have also intensified outreach programs targeting young people through public awareness campaigns, civic mobilization initiatives and community-based activities designed to strengthen social cohesion and counter extremist narratives.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has repeatedly described Somali youth as central to the country’s recovery and long-term stability, urging greater participation by young people in governance, national development and peacebuilding efforts.
The federal government increasingly views youth engagement as a strategic pillar in efforts to strengthen public trust in state institutions while supporting ongoing military operations against the Al-Shabaab insurgency and advancing Somalia’s democratic transition.
