Mother, two children killed in IED blast in central Somalia

GOOBJOOG NEWS|GALAGADUD: Three family members have been killed and two other people injured in an IED explosion in Galgadud region amid reports that the militant group Al-Shabaab planted the devices to target fleeing families.

According to sources, the explosion killed a mother and her two children in Eel-Lahelay area of Galgadud region after they reportedly stepped on it.

Somali National Army took control of the area yesterday (Wednesday). Sources said Al-Shabaab planted improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to target families returning to their homes following the liberation.

The explosion occurred around noon when the family returned home after spending the night in a nearby camp for displaced people. The blast also injured two other civilians, who were rescued by the national army and taken to a hospital.
