GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The National Independent Electoral Commission has stepped up preparations for upcoming elections, launching a training programme for poll workers in Afgooye district.

The commission said the initiative is aimed at strengthening its capacity to deliver credible elections, with a focus on equipping staff with procedures for voter registration, polling station management and vote counting.

It added that ensuring transparency and integrity throughout the electoral process remains a key priority as it prepares for one-person, one-vote polls.

The training is part of a wider rollout by the commission, which has announced plans to hold elections across several federal member states, including South West State, Hirshabelle, Galmudug and Jubbaland.

Somalia’s electoral body has in recent years taken on an expanded role as the country works to transition from indirect voting to a broader democratic system, despite ongoing security and logistical challenges.
