Somalia’s State Minister Accuses Opposition Figures of Seeking External Pressure Against Government
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Balcad, has accused some members of the Somali opposition of reverting to the tactics of former faction leaders, alleging that they are sending letters to international institutions such as the World Bank in an attempt to pressure the Somali government or suspend support provided to the country.
The minister said such actions undermine state-building efforts, national development, and ongoing initiatives aimed at stabilizing Somalia.
He noted that the Federal Government is focused on reconstruction and development, stressing the need for collective efforts to safeguard national unity and the country’s interests.
Ali Balcad also urged opposition politicians to resolve existing disputes through dialogue and constitutional political processes, rather than resorting to external pressure that could affect the international support Somalia receives.
However, the minister did not specifically name any opposition leader or group in his remarks.
