Over 50 Al-Shabaab Militants Killed in Joint Operation in Galgadud Region

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia has said its forces conducted a successful operation that killed over 50 Al-shabaab militants in the Dhabaqle area, situated between the towns of Masagaway and Awsweyne in the Galgudud region.

According to an official statement released by the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, the operation was conducted jointly by the Somali National Army, local forces, and international partners.

“With the support of our international allies, we were able to eliminate a significant number of al-Shabaab militants, thereby enhancing the security of the region,” a statement from the ministry reads.

It further stated that among those killed are top leaders of the militant group.

Ground forces, Gen. Dayah Abdulle who spoke to journalists confirmed that the militants were gathering to plan attacks against Somali people in the rural areas of Masagaway ans Osweyne in Galgaduud region.

The federal government says the National Army and local militia forces are currently in the areas where the fighting took place and are still pursuing the fighters and leaders who escaped.
