GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAIDOA: The Speaker of Somalia’s Lower House, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur, joined worshippers and regional officials for Eid al-Adha prayers in Baidoa, the interim capital of South West state, as Muslims across Somalia marked one of Islam’s holiest festivals.

The speaker, widely known as Madoobe, congratulated Somalis at home and abroad and prayed for lasting peace, unity, prosperity and development in the nation.

He urged citizens to strengthen solidarity and social support during the holiday, which is traditionally marked by communal prayers, charitable giving and family gatherings.

Eid al-Adha this year comes at a time when Somalia is navigating heightened political tensions and ongoing security operations against Al-Shabaab militants in several regions, including parts of southern and central Somalia.

Baidoa has remained a key political and security hub in recent months following disputes between the federal government and South West state authorities in recent months, underscoring the city’s strategic importance in Somalia’s state-building efforts.

The holiday also coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, where Somali pilgrims joined millions of Muslims from around the world in religious rites linked to the Day of Arafah and Eid al-Adha celebrations.

Somali leaders have used this year’s Eid celebrations to emphasize national unity, reconciliation and support for security forces amid continued efforts to stabilize the country after decades of conflict.
