PM Barre Appoints Committee to Organize Somalia’s 66th Independence and Unity Day Celebrations

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, has appointed a national committee to oversee preparations for the 66th anniversary celebrations of Somalia’s Independence and Unity Days, commemorating June 26 and July 1, 1960.

Acting in accordance with the Provisional Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the government’s responsibility to mark national days of historic significance, the Prime Minister tasked the committee with planning, coordinating, and implementing activities for the annual celebrations.

The committee will be responsible for organizing all events related to the commemoration of Somalia’s independence and unification. Its mandate includes coordinating government institutions and other stakeholders involved in the celebrations, overseeing and managing expenditures associated with the events, appointing a technical committee to handle logistical arrangements, and ensuring security at venues hosting the commemorative activities.

The committee members are:

  2. Gen. Bashir Mohamed Jama (Goobe), Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation – Member
  3. Mohamed Abdi Hayir (Maareeye), Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism – Member
  4. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, Minister of Women and Human Rights Development – Member
  5. Hassan Hussein Mohamed (Eelay), Minister of Livestock, Forestry and Range – Member
  6. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, Minister of Defense – Member
  7. Abdifatah Qasim Mahmoud, Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing – Member
  8. Mohamed Abdulkadir Ali, Minister of Youth and Sports – Member
  9. Hirsi Jama Gani, State Minister – Member

Prime Minister Hamza instructed the committee to work closely in preparing the commemorative events to highlight the historical significance of Somalia’s Independence and Unity Days and to strengthen the spirit of patriotism, national unity, and solidarity among the Somali people.
