GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has appointed the High-Level Management Board of the National Disaster Risk Management Fund, a move aimed at strengthening the government’s capacity to prevent, prepare for, and respond to natural and humanitarian disasters across the country.
According to a decree issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the newly appointed board comprises cabinet ministers, economic experts, and religious leaders tasked with providing strategic oversight of the fund. The board will monitor disaster situations and mobilize the financial resources needed to address emergencies effectively.
The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, Ali Yusuf Ali, has been appointed as the chairperson of the board. Other members will play a key role in shaping policies and guiding the fund’s operations to ensure that emergency assistance and support reach affected communities in an efficient, transparent, and accountable manner.
The Federal Government of Somalia has in recent years intensified efforts to establish a comprehensive national framework for disaster risk management, particularly in response to recurring droughts, floods, disease outbreaks, and other emergencies that continue to affect vulnerable populations across the country.
The National Disaster Risk Management Fund is expected to serve as a critical mechanism for coordinating domestic resources and international assistance during times of crisis. The newly formed board is expected to enhance accountability, improve resource management, and strengthen the effectiveness of disaster response efforts nationwide.
