PM Barre Launches Energy Ministry HQ, Pledges Service Expansion
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Tuesday launched construction of a new headquarters for the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, as the government steps up efforts to strengthen public service delivery and infrastructure.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Mogadishu, Barre said the project is part of a broader strategy to modernise state institutions and support economic growth.
He said the facility would improve the ministry’s operational capacity and coordination, enabling it to better serve citizens as demand for energy and water services rises.
Barre also outlined plans to expand access to essential services, including providing free electricity to government institutions such as hospitals, schools and administrative offices.
He added that the government is working to improve water supply systems in more than 20 cities, part of wider efforts to address infrastructure gaps in the sector.
Somalia has in recent years prioritised investment in public infrastructure as it seeks to rebuild institutions and boost domestic production following decades of conflict and underdevelopment.
The country faces persistent challenges in energy access and water management, with the federal government aiming to improve service delivery amid growing demand and climate pressures.
