PM Barre Receives New Djibouti Envoy for Bilateral Talks
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Wednesday received Djibouti’s newly appointed ambassador to Somalia, Osman Dubbad Sugulle, for talks focused on strengthening political, security and economic cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
The meeting in Mogadishu came shortly after Ambassador Sugulle formally presented his credentials to Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
During the talks, the envoy delivered a message from Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh reaffirming the longstanding ties between the two Horn of Africa nations and calling for closer cooperation, the Somali government said.
Prime Minister Barre congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and said Somalia attached importance to expanding bilateral relations with Djibouti, particularly in the areas of regional security, trade and political coordination.
The Somali premier also congratulated Djibouti’s newly reappointed Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed and wished him success in his new term.
Djibouti has long played a key role in Somalia’s stabilization efforts, contributing troops to the African Union peacekeeping mission and hosting several rounds of Somali reconciliation talks over the past two decades.
The two countries maintain close diplomatic and security relations amid ongoing efforts by regional governments to counter Islamist insurgency and boost economic integration in the Horn of Africa.
