PM Barre Reshuffles Senior Ministry Officials to Speed up Reform Agenda
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has reshuffled the directors-general of three government ministries in a move aimed at accelerating public sector reforms and improving the implementation of the government’s development agenda.
The appointments, announced on Thursday under the prime minister’s constitutional authority, affect the ministries of Ports and Maritime Transport, Energy and Water Resources, and Labour and Social Affairs.
Under the changes, Dr. Mohamed Saneey Dalmar was appointed Director General of the Ministry of Ports and Maritime Transport, Ahmed Yusuf Abdulle was named Director General of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, while Abdullahi Hassan Aden will head the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs as Director General.
The Prime Minister’s Office said the reshuffle was intended to inject new momentum into the work of the ministries and improve the delivery of government programmes. Hamza urged the newly appointed officials to uphold high standards of public service and accelerate the implementation of their ministries’ priorities.
The appointments form part of Hamza’s broader efforts to strengthen the performance of state institutions as his administration advances governance and economic reforms. In recent months, the government has introduced ministerial performance assessments, expanded digital governance initiatives, and pursued reforms in public financial management and civil service administration aimed at improving accountability and service delivery.
The ministries affected by the reshuffle oversee sectors central to Somalia’s development strategy, including maritime transport, energy and water infrastructure, employment and social protection. Analysts say effective leadership within these institutions will be important as Somalia seeks to attract investment, expand public services and sustain reforms following debt relief and renewed engagement with international financial institutions.
The latest changes underscore Prime Minister Hamza’s continued emphasis on improving government efficiency as Somalia works to strengthen state institutions while addressing security, economic and development challenges.
