Political Group Launches Voter Awareness Drive Ahead Of Southwest Elections

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAIDOA: A political group has launched a voter awareness campaign in Baidoa ahead of planned elections in South West State, drawing participation from candidates and community groups.

The event, held at the headquarters of the Waaberi political organisation, marked the start of efforts to mobilise public participation in the upcoming polls.

Candidates running for seats in the Baidoa local council and the South West State parliament attended the gathering, alongside youth groups, women’s organisations, elders and members of the wider community.

Organisers said the campaign aims to encourage civic engagement and prepare residents for the electoral process, as the federal government push to expand democratic participation at the regional level.

The initiative comes amid broader efforts in Somalia to advance electoral reforms and increase public involvement in governance, as the country works toward more inclusive voting systems after decades of indirect elections.
