President Mohamoud Mourns Death of Army Brigade Commander

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal government of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Saturday offered condolences following the death of Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nur Mohamed Gaabow, a top army commander killed in a suspected militant attack.

Gaabow, served as the commander of the Somali National Army’s 14th October Brigade. President Mohamud hailed him as a “patriotic and devoted officer” who died defending his country and the freedom of its people.

“Our hearts are with his family, comrades in the Somali National Army, and the entire nation,” the president said in a statement issued by the presidency. He prayed for divine mercy upon Gaabow and all fallen soldiers.

The president said a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack was underway and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to intensifying the fight against extremist groups.

“Terrorist threats will not derail our pursuit of peace and stability,” Mohamud said, pledging to hold those responsible to account.
