President Mohamud Heads to Turkey on Official Visit

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Republic of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is set to travel to Turkey Tuesday following an official invitation from his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

According to sources close to the Somali presidency, President Mohamud and his delegation is expected to hold high-level discussions with President Erdoğan and other Turkish government officials on matters important to both nations.

The sources further revealed that talks between the two sides will cover various critical topics, including the review and reinforcement of existing agreements between Mogadishu and Ankara, the evolving geopolitical situation in the Horn of Africa, and other shared strategic interests.

Turkey has expressed interest in revitalizing mediation efforts aimed at resolving tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia, following previous unsuccessful attempts to diffuse differences between the two nations.

The federal government of Somalia has maintained that Ethiopia must reverse its agreement with Somaliland region which Somalia views as a violation of its sovereignty before the mediation talks resume.
