President Mohamud Joins Eid Prayers in Mogadishu, Calls for Unity
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Government of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud joined hundreds of worshippers for Eid al-Adha prayers in Mogadishu, using the occasion to call for national unity, social solidarity and continued support for Somalia’s state-building efforts.
The prayers were held at the Islamic Unity Mosque in the capital as Muslims across Somalia and around the world marked Eid al-Adha, one of Islam’s most important religious holidays.
Addressing worshippers after the prayers, President Mohamud congratulated Somalis on the occasion and prayed for lasting peace, prosperity and development in the country.
“It is important that we strengthen our unity, cooperation and support within society in order to achieve a peaceful and developed Somalia,” the president said.
He said Somalia’s reconstruction and governance process had reached a “historic stage” driven by Somali citizens, stressing the importance of social cohesion, mutual support and assistance for vulnerable communities.
The president’s remarks come as Somalia continues military offensives against AlShabaab militants in parts of southern and central regions while also pursuing constitutional reforms, electoral processes and broader efforts to rebuild national institutions after decades of conflict.
Eid al-Adha celebrations this year coincide with the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, where Somali pilgrims joined millions of Muslims performing religious rites in Mecca and surrounding holy sites.
Federal government officials have increasingly used major religious occasions to promote reconciliation and unity amid persistent security threats, political disputes and humanitarian pressures linked to drought and displacement across parts of the country.
