President Mohamud terms war against Al-shabaab historic

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Government of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has said Somalia is undergoing a historic moment in the ongoing war against Al-shabaab, calling on leaders and citizens to support the government’s efforts to restore peace and stability in the country.

President Mohamud spoke when he chaired the second session of the National Consultation Conference in Mogadishu today which was convened to discuss the second phase of the operation to liberate Somalia from Al-Shabaab.

The meeting was attended by Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Noor and Major General Mohamed Ali Barise and Somali National Army commander Brigadier General Odawaa Yusuf Rage who presented the progress of the operation which is being carried out in collaboration with international partners.

Brigadier General Rage said the second phase will kick off soon in the South West and Jubaland states and that the Federal Government is working closely with the regional governments to ensure the operation is a success.

Already, the Somali National Army and those from the regional governments have liberated several parts of Hirshabeelle and Gulmudug where residents have praised the forces for freeing them from the hands of the militants.
