GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal government of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has expressed condolences following the death of retired military officer Haji Ali Abdille Fiixiye, widely known as Colonel Ali Shoocaac, who died in Kenya.

In a statement, the president extended his sympathies to the late officer’s family, the Somali Armed Forces and the wider public, describing Ali Shoocaac as a veteran who made significant contributions to Somalia’s military and national service over several decades.

President Mohamud said the late officer played an important role during different periods of Somalia’s history, particularly in the country’s armed forces, and praised his commitment to national unity and public service.

The presidency did not disclose the cause of death or provide further details about funeral arrangements.

Ali Shoocaac was regarded as one of Somalia’s veteran military figures, serving during periods of profound political and security change. His career spanned some of the country’s most turbulent decades, during which members of the armed forces played central roles in both national defence and state institutions.

His death comes at a time when Somalia continues to honour senior military figures whose service has shaped the country’s modern history, even as it works to rebuild and professionalise its security forces amid ongoing efforts to combat the al-Shabaab insurgency and strengthen national institutions.

Messages of condolence have continued to emerge from government officials, military officers and members of the public, recognising his contribution to the country’s armed forces and public service.
