Religious Affairs Minister Inspects Hajj Preparations for Somali Pilgrims
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal government of Somalia’s Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Mukhtar Robow Ali, inspected accommodation and transport arrangements for Somali pilgrims in Mecca as authorities intensified preparations for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.
The minister visited hotels hosting Somali pilgrims who were being relocated ahead of the next phase of Hajj rituals, where he met pilgrims and logistics officials overseeing transportation and accommodation arrangements.
Robow urged officials handling the operation to ensure Somali pilgrims are moved safely and responsibly as thousands prepare to take part in one of Islam’s most important religious gatherings.
According to the ministry, 11,615 Somali pilgrims are participating in the 1447/2026 Hajj season alongside millions of Muslims from around the world traveling to Saudi Arabia.
The ministry said it was continuing efforts to ensure Somali pilgrims receive adequate support and are able to perform Hajj rituals smoothly and safely.
Somalia has in recent years increased coordination with Saudi authorities and local Hajj service providers to improve travel, accommodation and welfare arrangements for Somali pilgrims following complaints in previous years over logistical and service challenges.
Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, draws millions of Muslims annually to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina and represents one of the world’s largest recurring religious gatherings.
