Security Forces Ramp up Measures in Baidoa Ahead of Planned Elections
GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAIDOA: Security officials in Somalia’s Southwest State have intensified measures in Baidoa, deploying additional forces and tightening controls as preparations continue for planned local elections.
Police, national intelligence officers and Special Forces have increased their presence across the city, with specialised units assigned to maintain internal stability and additional personnel stationed on the outskirts.
Authorities have established multiple checkpoints to screen vehicles and passengers, carrying out searches and identity checks as part of efforts to prevent security threats.
Officials have also enforced restrictions on the entry of unauthorized weapons into the city, alongside ongoing operations targeting illegal arms.
The stepped-up measures are aimed at securing Baidoa ahead of the anticipated vote, with authorities seeking to prevent disruptions and ensure a stable environment.
The move comes as Somalia continues efforts to expand electoral processes, amid persistent security challenges linked to the Al-Shabaab insurgency in parts of the region.
