GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Federal Elections Implementation Team has announced that 48 out 54 senators of the incoming Upper House have been elected, among them 12 female senators.

Four seats for Jubbaland ad two for Galmudug are yet to be filled.

The Committee hailed the election process in Jowhar for its fairness and transparency, an election which saw SamSam Abdullahi Hussein and Ali Shabaan elected for the two remaining Senate seats by HirShabelle on Tuesday.

Jowhar went back to elections on 4th October to elect senators to the two remaining seats after the previous election was marred by chaos leading to the calling off of the whole election process.

HirShabelle, Puntland, Southwest and Somaliland have since completed the exercise bringing the total number of elected members of the Upper House so far to 48.

The 30% quota for women is now five percentage points shy, the electoral body said.

FIET also reiterated its commitment to preparing adequately for the Lower House elections slated to roll soon.
