Storyline:National News

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s national army has delivered food assistance to drought-affected communities in areas under Raaga Ceelle district in the Middle Shabelle region.

According to military officials, the relief operation was carried out by the 195th unit of the 19th Brigade of the elite Gor Gor commandos, acting on instructions from the leadership of the Somali National Army.

Residents in the area have been grappling with worsening dry conditions following successive seasons of below-average rainfall, which have strained livelihoods and reduced access to food and water.

The military’s involvement in relief efforts reflects a broader role in supporting civilian populations, particularly in regions where access remains limited due to insecurity and underdeveloped infrastructure.

Somalia has faced recurring climate shocks in recent years, including prolonged droughts and erratic rainfall, which have displaced communities and heightened humanitarian needs.

The latest assistance comes as the federal government, alongside international partners, scales up efforts to respond to the impact of dry conditions across parts of central and southern Somalia.
