GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Federal Government of Somalia and opposition representatives have agreed to continue an inclusive political dialogue following talks held in Mogadishu on July 7, in a move aimed at easing political tensions and advancing national stability.

A press release issued by the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism on Wednesday said the meeting took place in a “friendly atmosphere” and provided an opportunity for an open, sincere and constructive exchange of views on issues facing the country.

According to the statement, both sides agreed to continue the dialogue process in pursuit of Somalia’s political stability, security and prosperity.

“The parties agreed on the continuation of the inclusive dialogue process in pursuit of Somalia’s political stability, security and prosperity,” the statement said.

The government and opposition representatives also expressed gratitude to the Republic of Türkiye for its role in facilitating the talks, describing Ankara’s mediation efforts as instrumental throughout the dialogue process.

The brief communiqué did not disclose the identities of the participants or provide details of any specific issues discussed or agreements reached beyond the commitment to continue negotiations.

The meeting comes amid months of political disagreement over Somalia’s electoral process and constitutional reforms. Relations between the Federal Government and several opposition leaders have been strained by disputes over the government’s push for universal suffrage, the electoral timetable, and proposed constitutional amendments.

In recent weeks, opposition figures have repeatedly called for broader consultations to resolve political differences through dialogue, while the government has maintained that inclusive discussions remain the best path toward achieving consensus on the country’s political future.

Türkiye has increasingly played the role of a key partner and mediator in Somalia, maintaining close diplomatic, security and development ties with Mogadishu. The latest talks reflect continued efforts by both the government and opposition to narrow their differences through negotiations rather than confrontation.

The two sides are expected to hold further meetings as part of the ongoing dialogue process, although no date for the next round of talks has been announced.
