GOOBJOOG NEWS|DOHA: Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Doha on Tuesday to offer condolences to the government and people of Qatar following the death of the country’s former Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

President Mohamud and his delegation were received at Hamad International Airport by Qatar’s Minister of Transport, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Thani, and Somalia’s Ambassador to Qatar, Mohamed Ahmed Sheikh Ali.

The visit is part of a series of condolence missions by world leaders travelling to Doha to pay tribute to the late former Emir, whom the Qatari government has described as a towering national figure whose leadership played a pivotal role in the country’s development and international standing.

Somalia has already expressed its condolences over Sheikh Hamad’s death. In a mark of national mourning and solidarity with Qatar, the Somali government ordered the national flag to be flown at half-mast.

Doha has been hosting a steady stream of foreign dignitaries and senior officials in recent days as they convey condolences to the Qatari leadership, the royal family and the people of Qatar following the passing of the former ruler, whose tenure was widely credited with transforming the Gulf state into a major regional and global diplomatic and economic power.
