Somali Travelers to Egypt Now Require Boarding Approval
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency has announced new travel measures affecting Somali citizens traveling to Egypt, saying passengers will now require prior travel authorization before boarding flights to the North African country.
In a public advisory, the agency said Somali nationals traveling to Egypt from May 24, 2026, onwards must obtain an “Ok-to-Board” travel clearance before departure.
The agency said the measure follows changes introduced by Egyptian authorities and urged Somali citizens to secure official travel approval through the Egyptian consulate before traveling.
It also advised Somali nationals currently in Egypt to regularize their residency and travel documentation through Egyptian consular authorities.
Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency said the new procedures were introduced as part of bilateral immigration and security coordination between Somalia and Egypt.
Egypt and Somalia have in recent years strengthened diplomatic and security relations, with Cairo expanding cooperation with Mogadishu in areas including defense, education, aviation and regional security.
The advisory comes as several countries globally tighten immigration screening and travel documentation requirements amid growing security and migration concerns.
