Somali, Turkish Forces Deliver Aid to Families in Lower Shabelle
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali government forces and Turkish military advisors have distributed humanitarian aid to hundreds of vulnerable families in the Mubarak area of Lower Shabelle, as part of broader stabilization efforts in newly secured territories.
The operation was carried out by Somalia’s elite Gorgor commandos in coordination with Turkish personnel from the Turkisom training mission, according to military officials.
Troops delivered food supplies including flour, rice, sugar and cooking oil to residents in the area, which has witnessed military operations against al Shabaab in recent months.
The aid deployment reflects the federal government’s strategy of combining military offensives with stabilization programs aimed at restoring state presence and improving living conditions in areas recovered from militant control.
Lieutenant Colonel Sahid Jama Farah, who oversaw the operation, said Somali forces remained committed not only to security operations but also to supporting civilians affected by conflict and instability.
Local residents and community leaders said security conditions in the area had improved since government forces increased their presence, allowing humanitarian support and basic services to gradually resume.
The initiative also highlighted expanding cooperation between Somalia and Turkey, which has become one of Mogadishu’s closest security and development partners through military training, infrastructure investment and humanitarian assistance.
Turkey has played a major role in training Somalia’s Gorgor Special Forces, which have become a key component of government offensives targeting Al-Shabaab strongholds in southern and central Somalia.
Lower Shabelle remains strategically important due to its agricultural significance and proximity to Mogadishu, with Somali authorities seeking to secure key supply corridors and stabilize communities affected by years of insurgency and displacement.
The aid operation comes as the federal government intensifies efforts to consolidate military gains by restoring governance, humanitarian support and economic activity in areas brought back under state control.
