GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and Djibouti have reaffirmed their close diplomatic and security ties following the arrival of Djibouti’s new ambassador to Mogadishu amid growing regional cooperation efforts in the Horn of Africa.

Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali met Djibouti’s newly appointed ambassador, Osman Dubad Sugule, on Thursday after the envoy formally presented copies of his diplomatic credentials.

The two sides discussed strengthening bilateral relations, expanding cooperation and supporting regional stability, according to Somalia’s Foreign Ministry.

Officials said the talks focused on shared interests in the Horn of Africa, where countries are increasingly working together on security, trade and political coordination amid regional tensions and economic challenges.

Djibouti is regarded as one of Somalia’s closest regional allies and has long played a key role in Somalia’s peace and stabilization efforts, including contributing troops to African Union missions and hosting reconciliation talks for Somali leaders over the years.

For Somalia, the appointment of a new Djiboutian envoy comes at a time when Mogadishu is intensifying regional diplomacy and seeking stronger partnerships with neighbouring countries following its entry into the East African Community.

The meeting also reflects broader efforts by the federal government of Somalia to strengthen ties with countries in the Horn of Africa as it pursues security cooperation, economic integration and political engagement across the region.
