Somalia, Austria Immigration Chiefs Hold Talks on Strengthening Cooperation

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Director General of Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA), Hussein Qasim Yusuf, on Wednesday received and held talks in Mogadishu with the Director General of Austria’s Immigration Authority, Gernot Maier, and a delegation accompanying him.
The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation and strengthening relations between the two immigration institutions, as both sides explored opportunities for collaboration in migration management and border administration.
Speaking during the meeting, Hussein Qasim Yusuf underscored the importance of deepening bilateral cooperation and maintaining strong institutional ties between Somalia and Austria in the field of immigration services.
He noted that Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency is currently undergoing a broad reform and modernization process aimed at improving service delivery and strengthening the country’s border management systems. Yusuf emphasized that international partnerships and technical cooperation are vital in supporting these ongoing efforts.
For his part, Austrian Immigration Director General Gernot Maier thanked the Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency for the warm reception and welcomed the opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the two institutions.
The visit comes as Somalia continues to pursue reforms in its immigration sector, seeking greater international cooperation to enhance migration governance, improve border security, and modernize public services.
