Somalia Backs Peace, Cooperation at Global Parliamentary Assembly
GOOBJOOG NEWS | ISTANBUL: Somalia has reaffirmed its commitment to peacebuilding and democratic governance at the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which recently concluded in Istanbul.
A delegation of federal lawmakers from both houses of parliament, led by Second Deputy Speaker of the House of the People Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, represented the country at the global gathering.
Speaking at the forum, Abshirow stressed the need to promote peace, justice and hope for future generations, underscoring Somalia’s efforts to strengthen state institutions and protect citizens’ rights.
The assembly brought together parliamentary representatives from around the world to address key issues including global security, climate change, sustainable development and democratic governance, while also promoting inter-parliamentary cooperation.
On the sidelines, delegates held bilateral meetings aimed at enhancing cooperation across regions.
Romania’s Anda Filip was elected as the new Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union during the session.
Somalia’s participation reflects its growing engagement in international parliamentary diplomacy as it continues efforts to rebuild governance structures after decades of conflict and political instability.
