GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Republic of Somalia has condemned recent attacks targeting Kuwait and Bahrain, expressing concern that the latest escalation in the Gulf could further destabilize a region critical to global energy supplies and international trade.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Somali government said it strongly denounced the attacks and reaffirmed its support for the security and sovereignty of the two Gulf States.

“The Federal Republic of Somalia strongly condemns the attacks targeting the brotherly State of Kuwait and the brotherly Kingdom of Bahrain and expresses deep concern over this dangerous escalation, which threatens regional peace and stability,” the statement said.

Somalia said it stood in full solidarity with Kuwait and Bahrain and supported efforts to protect civilians and critical infrastructure from attack.

The statement comes after a fresh wave of missile and drone attacks linked to the escalating confrontation between Iran and the United States in the Gulf. Kuwaiti authorities reported damage at Kuwait International Airport, while Bahrain activated air defence systems and emergency sirens as incoming missiles were intercepted.

Regional and international forces said several projectiles targeting Gulf States were either intercepted or failed to reach their intended targets.

The latest incidents mark one of the most serious flare-ups in the Gulf since a fragile ceasefire was announced earlier this year. The renewed hostilities have raised concerns about the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which a significant share of the world’s oil exports passes. Oil prices rose as investors reacted to fears of a wider regional conflict.

Somalia urged all parties to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue, warning that continued escalation could have far-reaching consequences beyond the Middle East.

“The Federal Republic of Somalia calls for restraint, dialogue and respect for international law to prevent further escalation and preserve peace, security and stability in the Gulf region,” the statement added.

Somalia maintains close diplomatic and economic ties with Gulf countries, particularly Kuwait and Bahrain, which host Somali communities and have long supported development and humanitarian initiatives in Somalia. Stability in the Gulf is also closely linked to the economies of East African countries that depend on trade routes crossing the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf.

The attacks have drawn condemnation from several governments across the region, amid growing international calls for de-escalation and renewed diplomatic efforts to prevent a broader conflict.
