GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and Djibouti have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, after Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre met Djibouti’s Police Commissioner Abdirahman Ali Kahin and Djibouti’s ambassador to Somalia, Osman Dubad Sugulle, in Mogadishu.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting underscored the two countries’ shared commitment to expanding cooperation based on their longstanding ties and common interests.

PM Barre thanked the Djiboutian delegation for the visit and said relations between the two neighbouring countries were founded on brotherhood and mutual support, while expressing Somalia’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation.

Djibouti’s ambassador commended the Somali government for its efforts to reinforce bilateral relations, saying the two countries would continue working together to advance areas of mutual interest.

Although officials did not disclose specific agreements, the meeting reflected continued engagement between the Horn of Africa neighbours as they seek to deepen collaboration on regional security, diplomacy and other shared priorities.

Djibouti remains one of Somalia’s closest regional allies and contributes troops to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), which supports Somali security forces in operations against the al Shabaab insurgency. The two countries also cooperate closely through regional organisations, including the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), on peace, security and regional integration initiatives.

The talks come as Somalia continues to strengthen partnerships with neighbouring countries to support regional stability and security cooperation amid ongoing efforts to counter militant threats and promote economic integration across the Horn of Africa.
