GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday hosted senior European Union officials in Mogadishu for a high-level partnership meeting, reinforcing mutual commitment to peace, stability, and democratic governance in Somalia.

The session marked the third round of engagements under the Joint Operational Roadmap, launched in May 2023 to guide Somalia-EU cooperation in key areas including security, political reform, and inclusive development.

Addressing delegates, President Mohamud reaffirmed his government’s dedication to advancing national unity through inclusive dialogue and institutional reforms. He also referenced the recently announced national dialogue as part of broader efforts to consolidate peace and defeat the extremist group al Shabaab, known by Somali authorities as “Kharijites.”

“Our path forward depends on collective resolve,” the president said. “The EU has stood with Somalia through critical phases of our recovery, and we remain committed to this enduring partnership.”

EU officials echoed their support for Somalia’s state-building agenda, stressing the importance of continued collaboration to foster resilience and democratic consolidation.

The meeting follows a similar session held with EU ambassadors in 2023, which set the tone for sustained dialogue and strategic cooperation.
