Somalia Expresses Condolences after Deadly Algeria Stadium Incident
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has expressed its condolences to Algeria following a deadly incident at a football stadium in the capital, Algiers, that left several people dead and others injured.
In a statement, the ministry said Somalia extended its “deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy” to the government and people of Algeria after the incident, which occurred at the Mohamed Hamlaoui Stadium and resulted in multiple casualties.
The ministry also conveyed its sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a swift recovery to those injured.
“Somalia stands in solidarity with the Democratic People’s Republic of Algeria during this difficult time,” the statement said, reaffirming the close ties between the two countries.
The message comes after Algeria declared a period of mourning following the stadium tragedy, which occurred during celebrations after a football match. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, while messages of condolence have continued to arrive from governments across Africa and beyond.
Somalia and Algeria maintain longstanding diplomatic relations and cooperate through regional and continental bodies, including the African Union and the Arab League, where both countries have regularly supported initiatives aimed at promoting peace, stability and regional cooperation.
