Somalia Expresses Solidarity with Pakistan after Deadly Train Bombing

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia has expressed strong solidarity with Pakistan following a deadly bomb attack targeting a passenger train in the southwestern province of Balochistan, reaffirming its opposition to terrorism and attacks against civilians.

In a statement, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation condemned the bombing in Quetta, which Pakistani authorities said killed dozens of people, including women and children, and injured many others.

The Federal Government of Somalia extended condolences to the government and people of Pakistan and wished a speedy recovery to those wounded in the attack.

“Somalia stands in full solidarity with Pakistan and reaffirms its firm rejection of all forms of terrorism and attacks targeting innocent civilians,” the ministry said.

The attack struck a passenger train near Quetta ahead of the Eid al-Adha holiday period, with Pakistani officials saying an explosives-laden vehicle detonated near the railway line, causing heavy casualties and derailing several coaches.

The separatist Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack, according to Pakistani media and security officials, in what has become one of the deadliest recent incidents in the restive province.

Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in militant violence in Balochistan in recent years, with separatist groups increasingly targeting transportation networks, security forces and public infrastructure.

Somalia’s statement reflects growing diplomatic and security ties between Mogadishu and Islamabad, with both countries frequently emphasizing cooperation in counterterrorism, security and regional stability.

Somalia itself continues to battle the al Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab insurgency and has repeatedly called for stronger international cooperation against extremist violence and terrorism.
