GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Government of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has said his government is conducting investigations into what he described as foreign efforts to undermine the country’s stability and development, adding that findings could be made public soon.

In an interview, President Mohamud said some foreign countries did not want Somalia to emerge from decades of conflict and state fragility, accusing unnamed external actors of seeking to prolong insecurity and political instability.

The president said the federal government was closely monitoring alleged foreign interference as well as individuals inside Somalia whom he accused of advancing interests opposed to the country’s progress.

“We are carrying out extensive investigations,” Mohamud said, adding that the government would soon release the results.

His remarks come at a sensitive moment for Somalia, which has faced growing political tensions in recent months over constitutional reforms, electoral arrangements and relations between the federal government and some regional administrations.

Constitutional amendments approved earlier this year triggered opposition criticism and deepened disagreements between Mogadishu and several federal member states over the country’s political future.

The comments also follow recent clashes in Mogadishu between government forces and security personnel linked to opposition leaders, raising concerns among international partners who have urged Somali stakeholders to resolve disputes through dialogue.

Mohamud discussed a range of issues during the interview, including the ongoing fight against the Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab, constitutional reforms, relations between the federal government and regional states, and what he described as foreign interference in Somalia’s internal affairs.

The president has previously voiced concerns about external involvement in Somali affairs, particularly amid growing geopolitical competition in the Horn of Africa and disputes surrounding Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The region has attracted increasing international attention because of its strategic location along key global shipping routes and competing political interests among regional and global powers.

The federal government has not publicly identified the countries or individuals allegedly under investigation.
