Somalia, Kenya Pledge Closer Security and Economic Ties

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s prime minister and Kenya’s ambassador have reaffirmed the importance of closer cooperation on security and economic ties during talks in Mogadishu.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre met Kenyan Ambassador Cyprian Kubai Iringo, with discussions focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing shared challenges.

Barre briefed the envoy on progress in ongoing operations against Islamist militants, highlighting recent gains in improving national security.

He stressed the need for continued coordination between the two countries, particularly in securing their shared border and promoting regional stability.

Iringo reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to deepening ties with Somalia, emphasising the importance of joint efforts to combat terrorism and support peace in the region.

Kenya has been a key security partner in Somalia, contributing troops to the African Union mission and working with Somali forces in operations against Al-Shabaab militants.
