Somalia Launches Awareness Campaign to Counter Extremism

MOGADISHU, Xinhua: Somalia has unveiled a national campaign to intensify awareness of counter-extremism.
The campaign, which was launched in the Somali capital of Mogadishu, brought together community elders to discuss their critical roles and patriotic responsibility in the fight against the terrorist group al-Shabab.
“Somalia’s future demands action, unity, and leadership. Your role is critical, not in words alone, but in mobilizing your communities to stand firm against those who threaten our stability, dignity, and very existence,” said Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh.
The meeting focused on public awareness campaigns and mobilization efforts to support the ongoing fight against al-Shabab militants.
During the meeting, Ali Hosh highlighted the role of community elders in the fight against extremism and called on all Somalis to unite and actively contribute to the eradication of al-Shabab, blamed for the loss of lives and destruction across the country.
The government and elders are expected to carry out public awareness campaigns nationwide and also work closely with community associations to help promote trust between the government and the public on various issues, including security matters.
The elders emphasized that the fight against terrorism can only be won when it is led by the communities themselves, noting that Somali people, united in their resolve, are fully committed to eliminating that threat.
