Somalia Launches Diplomatic Training to Strengthen Foreign Service
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has launched a new programme to train government officials in diplomacy and international relations, as the country seeks to strengthen its foreign service and expand its engagement with international partners.
The four-week course, unveiled by Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Mohamed Ali (Nadaara), will train 40 officials drawn from the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government institutions.
The programme, organised by the Ministry’s Institute of Diplomatic Studies, will focus on diplomacy, foreign policy, diplomatic protocol and international relations, equipping participants with skills to represent Somalia more effectively in regional and global forums.
Speaking at the launch, officials said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to build a more professional and capable civil service, particularly within institutions responsible for advancing Somalia’s foreign policy and international cooperation.
The training comes at a time when Somalia is seeking a more prominent role in regional and international affairs, following a series of diplomatic gains, including debt relief, increased engagement with multilateral organisations and expanded partnerships on security, trade and development.
In recent years, the federal government has stepped up efforts to modernise the public sector by investing in professional training programmes aimed at improving institutional capacity and preparing civil servants to respond to increasingly complex diplomatic and geopolitical challenges.
Strengthening the country’s diplomatic corps is expected to support Somalia’s efforts to attract investment, deepen international partnerships and promote its interests abroad as it continues its political and economic reforms.
