Storyline:National News

GOOBJOOG NEWS | HOBYO: The electoral commission has launched voter registration in parts of the Mudug region, expanding preparations for planned one-person, one-vote elections.

The National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) opened registration centres in Wargalo, where residents began signing up to participate in upcoming polls.

The commission said the rollout marks a key step in extending the voter registration process to more areas, as authorities work to widen participation.

Local officials and community figures were among the first to register, encouraging residents to take part and secure their voting rights.

The commission added that the expansion into Mudug is part of a broader nationwide effort to transition Somalia from an indirect, clan-based system to universal suffrage.

Somalia has been gradually rolling out voter registration in different regions despite logistical and security challenges, as it seeks to establish a more inclusive and transparent electoral system.
